Movyon – Revamping ASPI Tunnels

The Challenge

Revamping of the AID system in several of the Autostrade per l’Italia’s tunnels located in Italy

Autostrade per l'Italia was looking for:

  • improving the AID systems' performances and move to the latest generation video analytics technologies, especially in terms of false alarm rate, considering the heavy traffic and the large number of cameras managed by the control-rooms operators
  • minimizing the impact of the AID revamping on the tunnel's level of service, with the possibility of maintaining, in the first phase, the existing cameras and servers to speed up the renewing process

The Solution

Sprinx solved the challenge by proposing traffix.ai, its last-generation software platform for Automatic Incident Detection based on AI technology, including custom functions developed on specific indications from Movyon to fulfil the needs of Autostrade per l’Italia fully.

The Sprinx AID analysis in the traffix.ai software platform relies on advanced and pioneering algorithms that combine 3D object tracking technology and a deep learning module. This approach dramatically improves detection performance, reducing false alarms. It also minimises system configuration and calibration times. The neural network, designed for smart road and smart tunnel applications, enhances recognition capabilities, even in challenging environments, further reducing false alarms while maintaining high detection rates.

A key factor in the success of this project has been the technological partnership between Sprinx and Movyon. This collaboration fostered a profound synergy, combining skills and expertise with a deep understanding of the project’s requirements. As a result, a solution that effectively meets Aspi’s high standards and complex needs have been developed.

“The collaboration with Sprinx will undoubtedly strengthen our capabilities in delivering efficient and intelligent tunnel management solutions,” says Lorenzo Maraia, head of traffic and safety management systems at Movyon. “By incorporating Sprinx’s advanced algorithms into our ITS platforms, we have full confidence in optimising traffic flow, alleviating congestion, and ultimately enhancing overall transportation efficiency. This project represents an additional milestone in our ongoing mission to revolutionise traffic management practices and to improve the safety and efficiency of mobility infrastructure.”

The Result
"The collaboration with Sprinx will undoubtedly strengthen our capabilities in delivering efficient and intelligent tunnel management solutions"
Lorenzo Maraia, head of traffic and safety management systems at Movyon.
  • Use of AI technology: modernizing the system, replaced with the latest generation one (AI technology), based on standard PC platforms
  • Performance enhancements: thanks to the use of AI in the inference process, the performances were enhanced, with a dramatic reduction of false alarms.
  • Hardware infrastructure optimization: implementing brand-new technology on the existing servers and with the existing cameras as the first phase, speeding up the revamping process.
  • Efficient implementation: minimizing the impact on regular traffic and avoiding inconvenience by leveraging existing field infrastructure through the introduction of AI technology.
