We are pleased to announce that Sprinx will be participating in the upcoming 8th TSO Forum 2026, a key international event dedicated to tunnel safety and operations.
From April 13 to 15, 2026, tunnel professionals from across Europe will gather in Tromsø, a spectacular destination above the Arctic Circle in Norway, a country widely recognized for its extensive and highly advanced tunnel infrastructure. Over the course of three days, the event will offer a unique platform for knowledge exchange, inspiration, and meaningful networking among experts and stakeholders in the sector.
A unique collaboration for 2026
This year’s edition stands out for its collaborative format: the National Tunnel Forum Norway and the ITA COSUF Tunnel Safety Officers Forum will join forces, creating a shared space where national expertise meets international perspective. A dedicated joint day will encourage dialogue and cross-border exchange, while individual sessions will allow participants to explore specific topics in greater depth. The result is a rich and dynamic program that reflects both the complexity and the evolution of tunnel safety worldwide.
Within this context, Sprinx will contribute with a dedicated workshop titled “From Detection to Decision: How AI is transforming Automatic Incident Detection and enhancing safety in road and highway tunnels”, led by Haakon Stokkenes, Senior Key Account Manager ITS at Hatteland Technology and ITA COSUF Member, together with Sara Giolfo, International Sales Manager at Sprinx. The session will take participants on a journey through the evolution of Automatic Incident Detection systems, starting from early rule-based approaches, often limited by high false alarm rates, to today’s advanced AI-driven solutions designed specifically for safety-critical environments. Particular attention will be given to the role of detection quality as the foundation of any effective safety system, highlighting how unreliable or delayed signals can compromise the entire response chain. The discussion will naturally move toward the present, where specialized AI enables faster and more accurate detection of critical events such as smoke, stopped vehicles, or wrong-way driving, while significantly reducing false positives. This improvement is not only technical but operational, as it directly impacts the level of trust operators place in the system.
Enhancing safety through smarter AI
In tunnel environments, improving safety is not only about detecting events quickly, but also about minimizing false alarms and building operator trust in the system. Sprinx Automatic Incident Detection (AID) solutions leverage specialized AI to significantly enhance detection quality, reduce unnecessary alerts, and support more confident decision-making in control rooms. Today, these advanced AI solutions are already enabling safer and smarter tunnel operations. Looking ahead, emerging technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs) are expected to further strengthen control center capabilities through enhanced situational awareness and decision support, effectively bridging the gap between detection and action.
