Sprinx has played a pivotal role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of two essential natural tunnels on the SS 640 highway managed by Anas S.p.A.: the iconic Caltanissetta Tunnel, also known as the “Strada degli Scrittori,” and the Papazzo Tunnel, both located on the stunning island of Sicily, in Italy.

Challenges
The modernization of the SS 640 highway, particularly the Caltanissetta Tunnel, represents a remarkable engineering achievement. The project included the construction of two 4-kilometer-long tunnels beneath the city of Caltanissetta, presenting unique challenges such as extensive excavation and complex geomechanical conditions. These difficulties, at one point, nearly brought the work to a standstill. Sprinx’s traffix.ai software is at the core of this initiative, powering over 100 cameras installed across the tunnel network. These cameras transmit live video streams to three servers equipped with traffix.ai, enabling real-time incident detection, traffic flow optimization, and advanced safety analytics. The software’s capabilities include detecting stopped vehicles, wrong-way drivers, and pedestrians, ensuring rapid response and minimizing risks. Additionally, traffix.ai provides valuable traffic data for operators, enabling smoother traffic management and proactive safety measures.
