Eysturoyartunnilin
The Challenge
The Faroe Islands faced significant transportation challenges between Streymoy and Eysturoy. The 11.24 km Eysturoyartunnilin, featuring the world's first undersea roundabout, was designed to improve connectivity and economic growth. Ensuring safety and efficient traffic management within this extensive tunnel network was crucial, particularly in the event of an accident.

To address these challenges, the Faroe Islands turned to Sprinx and its innovative traffix.ai software platform, which leverages AI and 3D object tracking technology. In collaboration with the Sprinx partner for the Nordic market, Hatteland, and system integrator Roxel, Sprinx implemented an automatic incident detection system that could count and classify vehicles, providing real-time updates to the control room. This system ensures that the number and type of vehicles within the tunnel are constantly monitored, enhancing safety measures. The traffix.ai platform’s seamless integration with the local SCADA system through the TCP communication protocol enabled a robust and responsive traffic management solution.
